Shifting Mindsets for Entrepreneurial Success
ZLA Foundation to Host Fourth Annual Diaspora Conference in Atlanta
with its Annual Fundraising & Awards Gala
Atlanta, GA – August 25, 2023 – Zambians Promoting Leadership in America (ZLA Foundation) – the premier U.S.-based organization dedicated to harnessing the resources and intellectual prowess of the Zambian Diaspora– will host its fourth annual “Shifting Mindsets” conference in Atlanta, Georgia from September 7 to 9, 2023 at the Westin Atlanta Perimeter North Hotel. This year’s conference, which is open to all the Diaspora, is themed “Shifting Mindsets for Entrepreneurial Success” and is set to inspire and empower individuals to embrace new perspectives and unlock their entrepreneurial potential.
Established in 2014, ZLA Foundation champions a shift in mindsets for entrepreneurial success through tangible remittances, knowledge transfer, promotion of cultural diversity, and youth-led grassroots efforts to enhance transparency in governance and combat corruption. “We are excited to host our fourth annual Shifting Mindsets event in Atlanta in partnership with Association of Zambians in Atlanta, Inc.,” said Dr. Freda Mwamba Brazle, Founder of ZLA Foundation. “This conference is a unique opportunity for the Diaspora to come together and learn from each other, share ideas, and build partnerships. We are confident that this conference will help to empower individuals to achieve their entrepreneurial goals and make a positive impact throughout the Diaspora”.
This year’s conference kicks off on September 7th with an insightful lecture by ” African Women Decolonizing History, Culture & the Arts through Digital Humanities” by author and activist Mulenga Kapwepwe held at Georgia State University. On September 8th, the conference opens with a special address on State of Zambia by. H.E. Chibamba Kanyama, Zambian Ambassador to the United States. Followed by panel sessions covering topics on “Education is Power”, “Food is Power”, “Opportunities for Diaspora Engagement,” and “Creating Generational Wealth”. Some of the featured speakers include:
- Ms. Mizinga Melu, Managing Director & CEO of Absa Bank Zambia
- Dr. Steady Moono, President of Schenectady Community College
- Dr. Misheck Mwaba, President of Bow Valley in Canada
The conference will culminate on Friday, September 9 with a fundraising and awards gala to benefit ZLA Foundation’s youth programs in Zambia. This event will be an evening filled with live musical entertainment by American Idol Season 2 member, Sylvie Chibiliti and award-winning Zambian recording artist, Yo Maps. During the gala, ZLA Foundation will recognize the following individuals for their outstanding achievements in the diaspora and beyond and will be honored with the prestigious “Shifting Mindset Excellence Award“:

- Dr. Chiluwata Lungu, Ubuntu Award
- Emmanuel Nkole – Young Innovators Award
- Anthony Chanka – Entrepreneurship Award
- Fiskani Kaira – Creatives Award
- Samuel Sikapizye – Governance and Civic Leadership Award
Held annually, the Shifting Mindsets Diaspora Conference has been the most anticipate Zambian Diaspora event in Atlanta since its debut in 2021. The conference convenes distinguished guests, industry leaders, and professionals including delegates from the United States, Europe, Australia, South America, and across the globe.
Throughout its history, ZLA Foundation has partner with fellow Zambian organizations and professionals throughout the Diaspora to increase engagement, expose the community to knowledge about Africa, and provide entrepreneurial programming and training for youth in Zambia.
